Although the equipment rack is not normally a part of the home tour, we make sure they are dressed for the occasion. The equipment rack is often an afterthought because it resides in a closet or in a basement. We think it’s important enough to have a team member whose only job is building equipment racks.

Why is the equipment rack important?
Proper care for the hardware that runs your system is an absolute necessity. Each step of our installation process builds on the previous to create a great system. If the equipment fails, good wiring and control systems don’t matter.

How does DES care for the equipment rack?
Our engineering department designs the rack layouts based on the types of equipment, their weight and the amount of heat they produce. This approach creates the most successful implementation of the brains of your system and keeps your system working as promised. The wiring management behind the equipment rack is important because sagging wires mean loose connections and loose connections mean service calls. We feel that the neatness of the wiring on the back of the rack should be a reflection of the care put in to the entire system. If we take this much pride in the parts you never see, how much more care will be taken with the parts you do.
Why doesn't everyone take this much care when installing equipment racks?
Unfortunately, we have seen too many examples (such as the ones below) of some integrators not taking this part of the project seriously. It is far too common that we are called to perform service work on a system that we did not install only to find the root of the problem in the wiring at the equipment rack. We have no answer to the question of why others leave the project in this state, but we can promise that a DES system will never look like these images.
